1.6.09 Thinking about your “foundation”
This is your last semester of high school. Time to leave behind others telling you what to do, what to learn, where to work. Now is the time to think deeply about who you are and how that information can inform your future college and/or work plans. Now is the time to begin laying the foundation for your successful decisions after graduation.
Everything we do in class this semester will be geared toward your interests and expanding your ideas about what you might want to do after you leave here. So participate in each assignment and activity fully so that you can benefit the most from each of them. Remember that many of the assignments build on and are connected to one another.
Assignments:
1. You’ll start the process by articulating 3 goals that you have for this semester. For each goal develop an explanation for why that goal is important to you. How you’ll develop the explanation is by continually questioning “why” until you get to the foundation of the goal. This usually ends up being more about your foundational beliefs about yourself than it is about the goal.
2. Then we’ll continue this discovery using a questionnaire I pulled from the monster.com website. This website not only connects prospective employers and applicants, it is a great place to find information about choosing careers.
Assignment: Pull up the Interest Inventory and answer each question thoughtfully. Your answers will be used several ways this semester, so don’t just rush through it. The more thoughtful your answers, the more helpful they will be later.
